How to join Island Soul Choir
All you need is a desire to sing. It doesn't matter whether you are an experienced singer or even if you've never sung in a choir before.There are no auditions. Brian is fond of telling our audiences after a sing-along that “that was your audition and you all passed!”

The basics…
New members are accepted into the choir until the first rehearsal each session. Fall sessions run from late August to late November/early December, and Spring sessions run from January to late May/early June.
The next opportunity to join the choir will be August 2012.
The choir rehearses only 5 times each session at St. Philip's-by-the-Sea Anglican Church in Lantzville (map), approximately once a month, typically on Saturday afternoons (there may be an occasional Sunday afternoon too). Each session ends with a dress rehearsal on Saturday afternoon and concerts performed on a Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, all on the same weekend.
To assist our members with practising between rehearsals, we record each of the parts for our songs at the first rehearsal each session, and make the tracks available to all members through our website. We may also record another rehearsal closer to the concert, so that we can all master the nuances of Brian's direction. Sheet music is also provided, though not necessarily for all songs — as part of the aural tradition, there can be songs that we learn only by rote.
As part of registering into the choir, we ask our members to commit to attending at least 3 of the 5 rehearsals, to learn and practise our music between rehearsals, and to sing at both concerts. We also ask that members assist however they can in getting the work of the choir done.

If you'd like to check us out before making a commitment for the whole session, it's totally okay. With our "look-see" option, you can attend the first rehearsal for just $10. This fee is non-refundable and will be deducted from your member fees if you choose to join the choir for the rest of the session.
